August 14, 2024 Dear Edgewater Community, Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year! I hope this letter finds you well and that you have enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating summer. As we prepare to embark on another exciting academic year, I wanted to take a moment to share some of the significant updates and improvements happening across our district. At Eleanor Van Gelder School, we have been hard at work over the summer to enhance the school environment for our students, staff, and families. I am thrilled to announce that several site upgrades have been completed, including the resurfacing of the parking lot, basketball court, and sidewalks, as well as the installation of an ADA-compliant ramp to ensure accessibility for all. Additionally, we have updated the playground with improved drainage systems and new equipment, creating a safer and more enjoyable space for our students to play and learn. Our HVAC project is also well underway, and we are getting closer each day to opening our doors with an upgraded system that will provide a more comfortable learning environment for everyone. As always, we anticipate a smooth opening, and I want to thank Rich Gannon, Supervisor of Building and Grounds, and his dedicated team for their tireless efforts in getting our buildings ready for the new school year. Over at George Washington School, we are excited to announce the addition of a new playground structure and the upcoming installation of a rubberized surface, which will be completed in the weeks ahead. These upgrades will provide our students with a safer and more engaging outdoor space to enjoy. In addition to the physical improvements, I am proud to share that almost 30 staff members dedicated their summer to writing and updating our curriculum across all areas. We are deeply thankful for their hard work and professional input. This work will make each day more meaningful for our students. A lot is going on across our school grounds, but these changes are a sign that Edgewater School District is continuing to move forward and upward. We are committed to creating the best possible learning environment for our students, and these site upgrades and curriculum revisions are a testament to that commitment. Please look out for my first Pegasus Periodical, which will outline our district goals and the work being done to improve the academic experience for all our students. As we look ahead to the start of the school year, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will make this year another successful and enriching experience for our students. Thank you, and welcome back!
