At George Washington School, we focus on the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of all children. With a new character trait emphasized each month, we pride ourselves in instilling values that will carry over into adulthood. The teachers and staff at George Washington School are dedicated to the success of each child, and to making school a fun and challenging place to be.
The George Washington School is committed to providing students with programs of academic excellence, social development, good citizenship, and life-long living skills as they master all areas of the New Jersey Common Core Standards. Literacy is a primary focus in our school. Following the methodology termed by Teachers College as the Reading and Writing Workshop, teachers assess students’ current levels of reading and writing, and provide leveled texts and individualized instruction to support each child in reaching his or her goals. Teachers work with a staff developer from the Teachers College program in New York to help learn about ways to administer the program efficiently and effectively. Go Math! is our math program. This program helps to meet the needs of students on various levels, as well as be directly in correlation with the Common Core Standards.
Technology is critical to the educational experience at George Washington School with computers, whiteboards and projectors in all classrooms. All of our teachers use iPads to prepare and execute lessons. Web-based and multimedia applications are used throughout the school. Internet access in each classroom offers opportunities for students to extend their learning and interactions outside the school walls and across the world.
George Washington’s programs and initiatives are supported by an active Parent-Teacher Committee, which coordinates home/school activities and offers additional funding for special activities such as Author’s Day. Parents are committed partners to their children’s education and support our efforts to make every child a winner.
